PINK IS MY FAVOURITE COLOUR

I’ve always loved Audrey Hepburn.  I grew up watching her movies Breakfast at Tiffanys, My Fair Lady and my favourite Wait until Dark and wishing I could be just like her, sophisticated elegant and sexy all at once.

I’ve used a couple of her quotes in my new card range Motto and then chose this for my niece’s 18 birthday gift.  Perfect words for any young lady and still true today. I especially like the line “The prettiest girls are the happiest girls”  I believe in Pink!

This print is now available in our shop and makes the perfect gift for any pink loving girl out there.

RECYCLED GIFTWRAP

Last week I needed to wrap up a birthday gift, but we had no wrapping paper anywhere!   It was my son’s 15th birthday and we had all bought him something weeks before but had left it to the last minute to wrap it.  Now here I was the night before, stores closed and only the brown paper we wrap our orders up in.  So with the help of my daughters and some paint we decorated the boring brown paper with colourful circles, using various circular things we found in the kitchen.

Things got a little messy, but we had a lot of fun.

It was an inexpensive way to make a unique giftwrap for my son’s presents.  To finish the look we added letter “J” gift tags tied on with string.

I also made up some bunting by stringing a bunch of paper triangles onto some embroidery thread and hung them around the kitchen to surprise him when he came down the next morning

Here’s a few of the colourful birthday cards he received this year, including the one we gave him in the centre.  Of course after this brown paper project we had to chose this one from our new RAINBOW range.  The other cards he received from his Aunts compliment it so well too.

Life begins at 40!

I was recently asked to design invitations for a 40th birthday party … something stylish & manly was the brief … definately no flowers or frills!

I really enjoyed working on this commission and had lots of fun playing around with words to create a typography styled invite.

I used words that reflect a few of the birthday boys favourite things and I love how it turned out … so much that I think I might offer this style of party invite in our new shop which is coming really soon.  Stayed tuned for more details.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY EDDIE!

Happy Birthday Mum

As I create greeting cards for a living you would expect me to be frequently sending these little pieces of paper art to my family and friends but I have to own up to being very bad at keeping in touch. I blame the mixture of bringing up 4 kids and running my own business but that’s a poor excuse, so this year it was one of my new year resolutions to do better.
Its almost April and so far I think I am doing okay (apologies to anyone whose birthday or special anniversary I have missed). My mum’s birthday is at the beginning of March and I even managed to get her card to her on time, even though she was avoiding the Hampshire rain and visiting my sister in California. Her gift however was not so punctual, because I couldn’t find anything suitable. I live in Canada and she is still back in England so any gifts have to be small enough so I can afford to post them and sturdy enough to survive the journey.
I was out of ideas until I found a postcard yesterday that I’d picked up from a vendor at Covent Garden Market back in October last year.
A company called NAIVE, a mother and daughter team who create functional handmade pieces of textile art. I really liked their jewellery boxes in the shape of ice cream cones and ordered one from their website for my mum. This morning I received a lovely email back from Sue Jennings (one half of the company) letting me know that my “99″ was being made especially for me and would be on its way to my Mum later this week. Sorry its late Mum, but I know you are going to love it
